Health Care Reimbursement Certificate Program (Cert.)
The health care reimbursement certificate is a one-year program designed to prepare you for employment as a medical biller and coder in medical offices, clinics, hospitals and other medical facilities. The program builds upon knowledge and skills developed through both the medical billing and medical coding occupational endorsements.
Program coursework will develop knowledge and skills in both medical coding and health care reimbursement, as well as medical terminology, medical office technology, and human diseases. You will also advance your medical office skills and knowledge through courses in administrative procedures, communications, applied mathematics, and professional skills in the workplace.
Medical Billing Occupational Endorsement (O.E.)
The occupational endorsement in medical billing is a focused program that will prepare you to perform medical billing tasks related to employment in medical offices, clinics, hospitals and other medical facilities.
Program coursework will develop knowledge and skills in health care reimbursement, medical terminology, and medical office technology. Coursework will teach you how to analyze medical records and the procedures to provide information for reimbursement purposes.
The program has also been designed as a stepping stone to the health care reimbursement certificate for students interested in continuing to advance their knowledge through additional education.
Medical Coding Occupational Endorsement (O.E.)
The occupational endorsement in medical coding is a focused program that will prepare you to perform medical coding tasks related to employment in medical offices, clinics, hospitals and other medical facilities.
Program coursework will develop knowledge and skills in medical coding, medical terminology, human diseases, and office computer applications. Coursework will teach you how to analyze medical records and assign codes for indexing and diagnosis.
Qualified medical billers and coders have become a valuable asset to the medical profession. Third party billing and compensation procedures are constantly changing and their application and comprehension has become a specialized field.
Graduates of the program may choose to pursue an administrative career in a variety of settings including: private medical and dental practices, group practices, clinics, corporations, hospitals, public health, rural settings, education, insurance companies, armed forces, and consulting companies.
The successful completion of this certificate prepares the student for the national certification exam through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) coding exam and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) exam.
The program has been designed to enable students to transition from the occupational endorsement to the certificate and from the certificate to the A.A.S. medical assistant degree. The A.A.S. degree also establishes a gateway to more advanced degrees.
Class sizes are kept small to ensure students receive individualized one-on-one training from faculty and instructors who have years of experience in the allied health industry.
Special admission requirements (licensing or certification) may apply to students in this program. Applicants should familiarize themselves with these and speak with a faculty advisor if they have any questions or concerns.
