UAF Community & Technical College Process Technology will offer a unique, 13-week training program beginning May 23. The mining mill operations program prepares students for a career in operating mill equipment and systems used in the large-scale mining industry. Mill operators work where the mined ore is crushed, milled, and sent through the various systems to extract the minerals and metals.
This 2022 summer program will begin with a twelve-week online component in which students will use a mine mill simulator and complete five technical courses. Students will finish in August with a one-week, hands-on session performed as industry work experience (12-hour days), including skill and operations exercises and site visits to large-scale mines.
The CTC mining mill operations program makes it possible for students to earn a mining mill operations occupational endorsement, become qualified to work as a mill operator, and earn the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Part 48 Surface New Miner safety certification in only 13 weeks.
Job interviews will be arranged at the end of the program for students who successfully complete the program.
The program runs from May 23 through August 19, 2022. (Students can start the online portion after May 23. Contact the program to inquire about late registration.)
