Bachelor of Applied Arts & Sciences Degree (B.A.A.S.)
The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (B.A.A.S). degree is a degree completion program designed specifically for students who have earned an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree from a regionally accredited institution and who wish to earn a bachelor-level degree. The B.A.A.S. degree at UAF is offered as an interdisciplinary degree which allows students to tailor their bachelor’s degree program to their unique academic and career goals
The degree program is administered through the UAF Interdisciplinary Studies program. UAF CTC works cooperatively with UAF’s Interdisciplinary Studies Program to provide enhanced guidance and advising to students who are interested in the B.A.A.S. degree and who are completing or have completed their A.A.S. degree program at UAF CTC.
To be eligible to earn the B.A.A.S. degree, students must first complete an A.A.S. degree from an accredited institution of higher education. UAF offers A.A.S. degrees in the following areas:
Construction Trades Technology
Culinary Arts and Hospitality
Early Childhood Education
A growing number of workforce areas, traditionally served by A.A.S. degrees, are requiring their employees to possess both a bachelors degree and the technical knowledge and skills developed at the associate level before being promoted to higher level positions.
The B.A.A.S. degree provides a pathway to a bachelor’s degree for students who are completing, or who have completed, an A.A.S. degree. The degree allows students to create an individualized program of courses to meet their unique academic and career goals.
Students may submit a proposal for an interdisciplinary B.A.A.S. program after completing 15 credits at UAF as long as they have at least 30 credits remaining in the proposed degree program.
Students interested in pursuing the B.A.A.S. degree should begin by contacting CTC’s Advising Center. Advisors in the advising center will help connect each student with a Faculty Advisor who can help guide the development of the student’s individual degree plan.
