Information Technology Specialist (ITS), Cert, AAS
UAF Community and Technical College/Programs/Information Technology Specialist

ITS ProgramThe information technology specialist certificate and associate programs teach students how to use, support, implement, and troubleshoot the computer and information technology systems found in educational, governmental and corporate settings.

The certificate program focuses on foundation-level support skills required to effectively use and troubleshoot computer and information technology systems. Students completing the certificate program will be prepared for entry-level IT positions and to continue their education in the information technology specialist AAS degree program.

The AAS degree program prepares individuals to implement, support, and troubleshoot computer and information technology systems and obtain employment as an IT professional. Associate degrees in computing technology, network and cybersecurity, and network and system administration are offered.

Computing Technology
Students will develop a broad and general base of knowledge in a variety of computer technologies and have the opportunity to develop an individual educational plan that matches their skills and goals.

Network and Cybersecurity
Students will develop the skills and knowledge required to support and administer computers in a network environment with the emphasis on security. Students will learn how to secure operating systems and network services.

Network and System Administration
Students will develop the skills and knowledge required to support and administer network environments. Students will learn how to install, secure, manage and administer server operating systems and network services, and how to implement, configure and support devices used within an organization’s network infrastructure.

The ITS program also provides students the opportunity to select courses that meet degree requirements and prepare them for the following industry certifications:

Students not interested in pursuing the degree program may enroll in these courses for personal or professional development; as well as to prepare for industry certifications.
