Welding Technology

WeldingWelding is an important industrial skill, useful in a variety of areas. People trained in welding often find employment opportunities in the construction, agriculture, mining, transportation, aviation, and petroleum industries. The University of Alaska Fairbanks Community and Technical College (CTC) Welding Program is geared for beginning students who want to learn to cut and weld, as well as students seeking more advanced courses who would like to take their welding skills further. The UAF Community and Technical College also offers an Occupational Endorsement as an Entry Level Welder.

Classes are small in order to offer hands on training and maximize student-instructor interaction. Advanced students may work toward American Welding Society certification or pursue advanced projects. Our program emphasizes welding safety in every course and develops the student's ability to recognize hazardous situations encountered in the workplace.

Facilities and Instructors

The program is located in the newly renovated CTC Hutchison Center on Geist Road. Lecture material is complemented with complete audio-visual training aids, enabling students to progress at the maximum rate per class hour. Most of our welding courses are taught in the evening or on the weekend so as to accommodate the needs of students who have daytime jobs or are in the military. Students are required to provide their own personal gear for the welding courses in which they enroll. Contact the Welding department for a list of required welding gear.
